I’ve described the cancer journey as a roller coaster. After riding Iron Gwazi at Busch Gardens yesterday (strongly recommend), I will no longer make that comparison. A real roller coaster is exhilarating, thrilling, and fun. Even at its most terrifying, the rider is 99.9% certain that he or she will survive the experience. The biggest fear, at least from this rider’s perspective, is that the ride will break down and force all occupants of coaster cars to descend a terrifying ladder or staircase down to terra firma. With cancer, the certainty of survival is significantly less and the “thrills” come in the form of a clean scan or a positive doctor’s appointment. Last week, I got to experience some medical ups and downs, for sure, but there was nothing as flat-out adrenaline-inducing as that ride on Iron Gwazi.

I’ve already shared the news from the Dr. Nishihori appointment. That was good stuff. I also shared that I had a follow-up with my other oncologist. That wasn’t the best stuff.
