I went over six weeks without eating meat. To some of you, that may seem preposterous and to others, laughable. For me, it was a way to feel better about my ethics and principles when it comes to the treatment of animals. To continue to regularly consume animal flesh while knowing the barbaric way their lives came to an end (and the likely torturous conditions in which they lived before that) would make me feel like a hypocrite. So, I made the decision to eschew beef, pork, and chicken (I never really got into goat, lamb, boar, deer, or veal) for a bit. That’s not to say that I don’t love undersea life, as I do, but as my friend/mentor/idol Jim Philips said at lunch this week, “fish don’t blink.”
I almost went back and changed the title of this entry to Fish Don’t Blink, but I don’t like editing myself. You get my first thoughts and words 99% of the time.
