I’m ball-deep (see what I did there) in a podcast by one of my favorite rock stars, Billy Corgan. It’s called “33, and it’s a track-by-track dive into the unheralded Smashing Pumpkins release called ATUM (pronounced “autumn”). I’m enthralled not just by the way Billy uses words & puts them together but also by his stories of the history of his band. I’m a longtime fan of the Pumpkins, but I’m learning so much while listening.
In the podcast, Billy talks about being told he had zero chance of becoming a rock star. Hence, his “Zero” personae and the phenomenal song “Zero.” While listening to it on the elliptical this morning, after somehow braving the Arctic blast hitting our state, a few memories came back to me of how my radio career was nearly derailed a few times. I hope you enjoy them.
