Not “it is time to kill” or “this is a time to kill,” but “I have time to kill” as in I have reported for jury duty early. We are just past the announced starting time of 8:30 and I am in the jury auditorium in the Hillsborough County Courthouse. I’ll save the snide observations regarding my fellow potential jurors for Twitter. I’ll merely state that while I eventually decided to respect the legal system and its judicious servants by eschewing jeans, not everyone holds our courts in the same regard. Despite the paltry restrictions of “no shorts or tank tops,” there are indeed several pairs of shorts. A few open-toed shoes being worn by men. No tank tops yet, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised to spot an armpit or two. These are the people who will decide someone’s innocence or guilt, another jarring reminder of how important it is not to get caught up in “the system.”

As is my nature, I left my parking ticket in my temporary vehicle instead of bringing it in to get it validated. The way I look at it, if I get dismissed before lunch then I will gladly and eagerly pay whatever the parking fee may be. If I last through lunch,. then I will visit the VW Atlas that I’m currently driving to retrieve it. Why am I driving an Atlas? Oh, I’m so glad that I asked.
