Yesterday, I recorded episode two of The Forbidden Podcast. You’ll “get” to hear it in a month or so, after I’m able to say goodbye to my medical leave and hello to being back on the radio. I spent the better part of 35 minutes on the role that watching sports has had on my life for the better part of five decades. I’ll spare you the repetition and focus this post solely on the title, the healthy distraction that our hometown heroes known as the Tampa Bay Lightning has brought to my life during and throughout this cancer journey and the brutal treatments that accompany it. I totally respect those of you who avoid sports and embrace more noble and meaningful pursuits, but for me…having these games as an anticipatory distraction has gotten me through some tough times and situations.
